BMW has its own performance division, that’s no secret. Less widely known is that BMW offers performance driving instruction. What happens when you take fourteen teenagers, give them performance cars, stick them on a track, and tell them to go? Well, normally bad things, but at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the kids instead got a lesson they’ll never forget.
BMW is conducting the teen driving school to publicize its Ultimate Driving Experience. The nationwide tour will reach Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Washington, DC, Seattle, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, and New York. In all, BMW will offer free performance driving instruction to teens and adults across the country. Each stop will last nine days.
Adults have the option to get some instruction (both paid and free), while teens (under the age of 21) who participate must have a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit. There are 24 spots for each session, first come, first serve.
The Spartanburg, South Carolina weekend was offered to children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren of automotive journalists. The teens were set on a track in performance vehicles and followed instructions. They also took a ride in the BMW X3 and went off-road.
