Recently released in Europe the BMW 1 Series M is on its way to the United States. While the official US release date has not be announced, BMW dealers stateside can order 1M’s from the company and potential buyers can easily customize the features and packages they want on BMW’s webpage. The only thing we have not seen from BMW is the 1M convertible that many speculated was a strong possibility for the American debut.
From the second you hit the 1M’s push button start you can tell you are in a true M model. The base model comes equipped with a 3.0 liter, 335 horsepower twin turbo engine which does zero to sixty in 4.7 seconds. The short wheel base, about 4 inches shorter than the M3, gives this rides superb go-cart like handling through the corners. And the sporty M model seats found in the M3 will keep you snug in your seat around each one.
While the 1M will cost a little more than the base 1 series coupe, most of what you are paying for is the improved driving experience. It’s the things you don’t see that make an M model stand alone. If navigation, satellite radio, and other convenience features are what you desire they are easy upgrades for a small fee, a pretty good deal on such a luxury car.
While some may argue that the vehicle should be equipped with higher end convenience features, the true driving enthusiast will recognize the beauty and brilliance of the 1M and will enjoy every moment they can spend behind the wheel.
