It’s not often a hole-in-one means a new BMW i3 for you and a four-year, full tuition and housing grant for a student. If so, the mini-golf courses across the U.S. would be packed. However, for professional golfer Hunter Mahan, that’s exactly what happened as a result of his hole-in-one at the 2013 BMW Championship at the Conway Farms Golf Club.
Proceeds from the BMW Championship go to support the Evans Scholars Foundation. The Foundation awards full tuition scholarships to qualified caddies pursuing a college degree.
When Mahan scored a hole-in-one on the tournament’s 17th hole last year, he won BMW’s all-electric i3 and Melyzjah Smith won the BMW Hole-in-One scholarship. Smith is currently a sophomore at the University of Colorado where she studies architectural engineering.
The two met earlier this month when Mahan received his new i3.
The awarding-winning EV earns between 70 and 110 miles on a single charge and fully charges in about 3.5 hours.
