Brace yourself, Tesla: BMW is coming. The German automaker has just announced the launch of the BMW i DC Fast Charger, which was developed with Bosch Automotive to provide BMW i3 owners the ability to quickly and efficiently charge their car.
Though the BMW i3’s 80 to 160 miles range makes it best suited for commuting or medium-length trips, owners can be reassured knowing that BMW is building a network of fast-charging stations that allow them to go anywhere they please.
The i DC Fast Charger is smaller, lighter, and cheaper than most other chargers on the market. It can charge an i3’s battery up to 80 percent in only 30 minutes and will be installed in at least 100 NRG eVgo charging stations around California through the end of 2015.
Oh, and did we mention that 30-minute charging will be free?
