BMW is finally launching the 2 Series Active Tourer we’ve been excited about for the last year—the brand’s first front-wheel-drive vehicle.
No one is totally sure why BMW, a brand renowned for its sporty, rear-wheel-drive sedans, has opted to make a five-door, front-wheel-drive Ultimate Driving Machine. Well, maybe aside from the simple fact that they can. But we do know that because it’s a BMW, it’ll at least be two things: it’ll look really good, and it’ll drive extremely well.
For now, its launch is limited to Europe, but there are rumors that it might be making the trip overseas to American dealerships—like Union Park BMW—in 2015. When it does, it’ll be bringing with it the legendary 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine already featured in the 2014 Mini Cooper, which kicks for 134 horsepower at 48 miles to the gallon. That’s just the basic engine though—there’s also a turbodiesel that delivers even more power at an average 57 mpg on the EU cycle.
If that doesn’t grab your attention at least a little, then check out the launch film for the 2 Series Active Tourer!
