The all-new BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe made a spectacular entrance at the North American International Show in Detroit, quickly attracting the attention of thousands of fans and even more curious onlookers.
As the much-anticipated successors to the most-esteemed M3 coupe and sedan, the M3 sedan and M4 coupe not only underwent a differentiating name change, but also took on multiple improvements. While the aesthetic aspects of the new M3 and M4 are more than pleasing, the most notable change is the one you can’t plainly see but most certainly feel.
Last generation’s naturally-aspirated V8 is gone, replaced by a turbocharged inline-6 that is not only 22 pounds lighter but also exponentially more powerful. At 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, the new M3 sedan and M4 coupe outdo their predecessors by 25 ponies and a whopping 111 lb-ft of torque.
In fact, shedding weight seems to be a recurring theme with the BMW. In addition to the lighter engine, the new models have dropped more than 175 lbs of overall curb weight, in part thanks to the hefty adoption of carbon fiber. And boy, do they ever look lovely!
BMW promises we’ll start seeing the M3 and M4 coming in at the dealership by June. See you then, right here at Union Park BMW!
