J.D. Power and Associates, the global marketing services firm best known for its customer satisfaction research on automotive quality, dependability, and longevity, has named the new BMW 5 Series as the 2011 Most Appealing Midsize Premium Car. The 5 Series Sedan scored the best out of the series, with full marks across J.D. Power and Associates’ performance and design categories, including Overall Performance and Design, Performance, Comfort, Features, and Style.
The 5 Series, the sixth generation of the car, has exceeded sales since its 2010 debut. BMW offers three models in the United States: the entry-level 528i, the more powerful 535i, and the V8 550i. The 5 Series is available in sedan and touring versions.
The BMW 5 Series proves worthy of accolades in the area of performance. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powering the 528i produces 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and the highest-end V8 model boasts a whopping 400-horsepower. BMW estimates a fuel economy of 24 mpg in city and 34 mpg in the highway. 5 series also offers a solid mechanical system and power train, which earned it four out of five stars for overall initial quality from J.D. Power.
Interior comfort and exterior style completes the big-picture appeal of the 5 Series lauded by J.D. Power and Associates. All models feature BMW’s signature interior luxuries, such as leather or leatherette upholstery, wood trim, ten-speaker high-fidelity audio systems, and ambient lighting. The 5 Series also comes loaded with comfort features, and award-winning instrumentation and controls. A variety of optional add-ons make the 5 Series even more appealing to a wide swath of customers, while its design and performance uphold the standard BMW drivers have come to expect.
