Since 1975, the world has been entranced by the BMW Art Cars series. And now, BMW has announced two new upcoming BMW Art Cars to be designed by Chinese artist Cao Fei and American artist John Baldessari.
These artists will be both the youngest (Fei) and the oldest (Baldessari) artists selected for the series. Within the next year, both artists will design a BMW M6 GT3and these cars will then head to museum displays in 2017 while proving themselves on the racetrack as well.
“On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the BMW Art Car Collection, it is time to look ahead. The collection is the embodiment of the cultural commitment of the BMW Group – its vehicles stand for the combination of cutting-edge technology and inspiring art. We are very proud to expand the series with two works by such renowned artists,” said Ian Robertson during the announcement at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Some of the most famous art cars include Alexander Calder’s, the first Art Car from 1975, along with cars from Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jeff Koons.
